M’s friend loved grapefruits, scooping them spoonful at a time, but nothing in the silverware drawer was quite right for the job. M and I talked in length about what makes a grapefruit spoon, a grapefruit spoon: the bowl sized perfectly for each section, a pointy tip and sharp edge to loosen the fruit, but not too pointy, comfortable for the hand and the mouth.
